Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). When she was just five years old, she moved to Oxfordshire and enrolled at an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma's ambition was to become an actor. When she was 6, she enrolled in the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch in which she was taught classes for acting, singing and dancing. At the age of ten, she took part and performed the main role in a number of Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the film from 2001 adaption of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Casting agents found Emma by way of her Oxford theater teacher. After eight consecutive auditions, producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been selected to play the three lead characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's film debut came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film was also one of the top-rated films in 2001. The opening days and weekends of ticket sales were record-breaking. Critics praised the film and the performance of three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph in Britain, which is widely distributed the newspaper, described her performance as outstanding. Emma received the Young Artist Award as the most outstanding young actor in an Feature Film. The actress was nominated five times for her performance in the movie.
